Distillation Tower
Every now and then ExplainMedia will release a short video clip illustrating fundemental aspects of process technology. This month we placed on our website a short clip showing the internals of a distillation tower. A high-definition version is available on ExplainMedia's YouTube channel.

ExplainMedia's Virtual Refinery Add-On:
The New Standard in Process Technology Simulations
For over five years, this revolutionary off-the-shelf Virtual Refinery has set the standard for process technology training. ExplainMedia's Virtual Refinery is an add-on that will add 3D capabilities to process simulators.
Operating teams and college students can now explore and run virtual equipment from any PC. Aspects of a modern plant, such as plant equipment, DCS controls, and instrumentation, are modeled simultaneously and in realistic detail.
The minimum system requirements of ExplainMedia's Virtual Refinery add-on (at least Windows 2000, 512 Mb RAM) allow a fast and easy implementation in every organization.

ExplainMedia has taken proven Simulation Solutions, Inc., training programs, long made available to DCS operators, and extended them with corresponding 3D rendered virtual environments for the field operator. With these added capabilities, outside operators can open and close hand-operated valves, start and stop pumps, take field readings, see equipment running, communicate with the control room, and so on. Instructors can mentor and manage training sessions, instead of being tied up in playing the role of an outside operator using previously provided remote function switches.
Users can navigate valves, pumps, towers, and reactors and observe dynamically, over a full range of operating conditions, how equipment, feedstock, catalysts, and products respond to changing feed rates, temperatures, pressures, etc. Mathematical models drive all outside operator station functions and responses.
The following Virtual Refinery modules are available:
Centrifugal Pump- Centrifugal Pumps
- Pump and Valve
- Fluid Flow
- Mix Tank
- pH Control
- Condenser System
- Heat Exchanger
- Reboiler System
- Flash Drum
- Cooling Water Tower
- Distillation with Dynamic Profitability Analysis
- Atmospheric Crude Unit (ACU)
- Fluid Catalytic Cracking Unit (FCCU)
- Vacuum Ejector System
